چکیده

This paper aimed to determine the effects of a pulse signal near-fault ground motion on dynamic response gravity dams, including dam-reservoir-foundation interaction, using different reservoir modelling approaches such as Westergaard, Lagrange, and Euler. As case study, Sarıyar concrete dam located Sakarya River, 120 km northeast Ankara, was considered for investigating ground-motion responses. First, main principles basic formulations these were presented. Then, finite element models realized considering interaction ANSYS software. To structural under motion, linear transient analyses performed 1999 Taiwan Chi-Chi 1979 Imperial Valley motions, which display apparent velocity pulses representative earthquakes. Subsequently, characteristics compared demonstrate fluid domain effects.

Response of Buildings with Inclined First-Story Columns to Near-Fault Ground Motion

In this paper a simple model of a three story building with inclined first-story columns has presented. The stories are supposed to be rigid and are connected to axially rigid mass less columns by elasto-plastic rotational springs and linear rotational dampers. The considered model is subjected to horizontal component of fault normal pulse with different magnitudes and the governed nonlinear di...

The present study investigate the effects of mechanical properties of the rock layers in the foundation of concrete gravity dam on the seismic response of gravity dam–reservoir –foundation systems. The mutual effects of different domains are considered in the present research. As a case study the biggest section of Shafarud dam in the north of Iran is modeled two dimensionally using ABAQUS soft...

Effect of Seismic wave scattering on the Response of Dam-Reservoir-Foundation Systems

Traditionally the foundation in a dam is modeled by a sub-structuring approach for the purpose of seismic performance analysis. The main disadvantage of sub-structuring approach is that it cannot be used for solving nonlinear dynamic problems. Therefore, in that case seismic response analysis must be carried out in time domain. Among the different earthquake input mechanisms the deconvolved ear...

Investigation of seismic damage index due to water level changes in reservoir through nonlinear dynamic analysis under Far-Fault and Near-Fault ground motions

In this study, reservoir water level effects on nonlinear dynamic response of concrete gravity dams are investigated. For this purpose, the nonlinear behavior of the dam concrete is captured using the concrete damage plasticity (CDP) on the non associated flow rule assumption. Water in the reservoir is represented by the Lagrangian (displacement-based) fluid finite elements. The program ABAQUS ...
